The selection of welding equipment is an important aspect of formulating welding processes, involving numerous factors. However, the following factors should be considered.
1. Technical Requirements of the Welded Structure
The technical requirements of the welded structure include the material properties, structural characteristics, dimensions, precision requirements, and operating conditions of the welded structure.
If the welding structure material is ordinary low-carbon steel, an arc welding transformer can be used; if the welding structure has higher requirements and low-hydrogen electrodes are required, a DC arc welding machine should be used.
For thick and large-sized welds, an electroslag welding machine can be used; for bar butt welding, a cold pressure welding machine and a resistance butt welding machine can be used. For active metals or alloys, heat-resistant alloys, and corrosion-resistant alloys, inert gas shielded welding machines, plasma arc welding machines, electron beam welding machines, etc., can be selected according to the specific situation.
For large-batch welding structures with fixed shapes and sizes, dedicated welding machines can be used.
2. Actual Usage
Different welding equipment can weld the same workpiece. Therefore, the most suitable welding equipment should be selected based on the actual usage.
For example, when welding outdoors and lacking power and gas sources, only diesel (gasoline) DC arc welding generators can be used as welding equipment.
For precision weldments that cannot be machined or heat-treated after welding, an electron beam welding machine with concentrated energy, no need for filler metal, less heat-affected zone, and high precision should be selected.
3. Economic Efficiency
During welding, the energy consumption of welding equipment is considerable. When selecting welding equipment, under the premise of meeting process requirements, welding equipment with low power consumption and high power factor should be selected as much as possible.
